Antonio Baumgartner, 30, faces charges of assault and attempted second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his sleeping roommate in Bloomington, Minnesota on Thursday, according to a criminal complaint.
Police found the victim covered in blood with life-threatening injuries. The victim told officers that Baumgartner stabbed him while he slept after pounding loudly on his bedroom door. The victim said the attack was unprovoked. Police observed two serious stab wounds to the victim's arm and a severe wound to his abdomen. The victim underwent six hours of surgery.
The two men had lived together for 10 months. Baumgartner fled after the stabbing. Around 2:20 a.m., Baumgartner called his sister and told her, "I've had it with this place," then asked her to pick him up from the home. His sister told police she believed he was using drugs that night and was concerned about him.
Police found Baumgartner at the scene of a break-in and arrested him. He had blood on his pants when officers located him. Baumgartner is being held at Hennepin County Jail on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
