The Supreme Court scheduled oral arguments for January on two cases: a Florida man's challenge to the state's six-person jury requirement and a religious zoning dispute involving a Catholic church in northern Kentucky.
In Kian v. Florida, the court will hear arguments on Jan. 13 regarding whether Florida's use of six-person juries violates constitutional protections. The case tests a state practice that differs from the common law jury of twelve.
In Missionaries of Saint John the Baptist v. Frederic, oral arguments are set for Jan. 20. The case involves a dispute between a Catholic church in northern Kentucky and neighboring residents who oppose the church's plans to build a shrine to the Virgin Mary.
The court will hear six arguments over five days, from Jan. 11-13 and Jan. 19-20.
