A 21-year-old Florida woman faces charges after she posted a threat on Instagram to shoot President Donald Trump at a rally. Allison Albro allegedly wrote on Oct. 29, "Going to the trump rally in my city tmr so I can shoot him with my glock! wish me luck guys!!" The post targeted Trump's scheduled Oct. 30 midterm campaign rally at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office took Albro into custody Friday and charged her with one count of making written threats to kill or do bodily injury and one count of using a two-way communication device to commit a felony.
When questioned by sheriff's detectives and federal agents, Albro admitted to posting the threat but claimed it was a joke and said she deleted it after a warning from her mother. Prosecutors noted in a filing that "although she does not like President Trump, the threat was a 'joke.' She advised that she does not have a gun."
Prosecutors argued Albro posed a threat to the community and sought to hold her without bond pending trial. Sheriff Mike Chitwood posted on Facebook that his office was "not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president," adding that Albro was "learning that the hard way."
Albro is being held in the Volusia County Jail on a $2,500 bond. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance Friday afternoon.
