Miles Joseph Fridrich, 27, was sentenced to life in state prison on Thursday for the October 28, 2023 stabbing death of Dr. Talat Jehan Khan, a 52-year-old pediatrician. Montgomery County District Judge Phil Grant imposed the sentence after Fridrich pleaded guilty to one count of murder.

Khan was killed outside her apartment complex at Alys Apartments in the 15000 block of Mansions View Drive in Conroe, Texas. She was sitting on a picnic table when Fridrich attacked her with a katana in front of several children and neighbors. A witness reported that Fridrich checked Khan's pulse during the assault, then stabbed her three more times. Fridrich fled on foot but was arrested a short distance from the building.

During the punishment phase, Fridrich's mother, Lisa Jenkins, testified and apologized to Khan's family. Jenkins stated that her son had struggled with drug use for years and became increasingly paranoid around 2022, believing he was being followed. She added that on the morning of the attack, Fridrich called her multiple times asking her to come home. "I couldn't come home. I had already signed my second warning for being tardy, and I didn't want to lose my job," Jenkins said.
