Abel Garza, a 30-year-old Laredo Sector Border Patrol agent, remains jailed on $1.5 million bond after his arrest for fatally stabbing his wife, Mayra Alejandra Landeros, 28, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Laredo, Texas.

Officers responded to a call after Garza knocked on neighbors' doors asking for help. A police drone spotted a car leaving the area as officers arrived at the home on Texana Street. Officers stopped the vehicle and found Landeros in the backseat suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she died from her injuries.

Garza stands accused of one count of murder. He also faces two counts each of child endangerment and child abandonment, plus one count each of aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, interfering with an emergency request for assistance, and protective order violation, according to Webb County Sheriff's Office records. Officers found two children safe at the couple's home.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed Garza was off duty at the time. The agency's office of professional responsibility is reviewing the charges against him.

In January, Garza was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at a woman during a domestic disturbance on the same street where Landeros died, according to the Laredo Morning Tribune.

The police chief said the circumstances surrounding the stabbing were unclear but noted the case was being investigated as domestic violence.
