# Minnesota Mother and Boyfriend Charged with Child Abuse

A Minnesota woman has been arrested and charged with child abuse after authorities say she violently assaulted her 2-year-old son and documented the abuse in videos sent to her boyfriend. The boyfriend also faces charges for failing to report the abuse and for his own involvement.

According to police reports, the woman shook and punched the toddler while the child screamed. She then sent videos of the abuse to her boyfriend as apparent retaliation for him not responding to her messages while at work. Law enforcement obtained the videos as evidence and used them to build the criminal case.

The charges against the mother include second-degree assault of a child and child endangerment. The boyfriend faces charges related to child abuse and failure to report. Both remain in custody pending trial.

Minnesota Statute Section 609.223 defines assault in the second degree, which applies to attacks on vulnerable persons including young children. Child endangerment charges under Section 609.378 apply when a person knowingly acts in a manner that creates substantial risk to a child's health or safety. Failure to report child abuse is codified under Section 626.556, which imposes a legal duty on certain individuals to report suspected abuse.

The case demonstrates how digital evidence, including personal videos, can establish criminal liability in child abuse prosecutions. The deliberate documentation and transmission of abuse footage strengthens prosecution arguments regarding intent and consciousness of guilt.

Both defendants' criminal history and relationship to the victim will factor into sentencing considerations. Child abuse cases involving documented violence typically result in substantial prison sentences and permanent loss of custody rights.
